The Tampico Algodoneros replaced the Tampico Piratas in the Mexican Center League in 1970. They played one season and finished second at 69-56, finishing third in both halves, despite being outscored 635-633. Their top player was one who would go on to a big career in the Mexican League, All-Star outfielder Miguel Suárez. Suárez (.393/.439/.583) led the league in average, hits (181), total bases (268) and doubles (37). He was joined on the All-Star team by C Rafael Mendivil (.314/.381/.568, 20 HR, 81 RBI in 101 G).
