Biographical Information[edit]
Tamaichi Yasui played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 13 years.
Yasui was signed by the Hanshin Tigers in 1942, and he hit .201/.262/.246 in his rookie year. He also had a 1-3 record with a 2.06 ERA on the mound. He recorded a .224/.287/.279 batting line in 1943, then he was enlisted to the military and missed the next two seasons. Yasui returned in 1947 with a .241/.286/.307 batting line, then he hit .271/.296/.387 with 8 triples in 1948. He was 6th in triples in the JPBL in 1948, tying Kazuo Horii, Masayasu Kaneda and Michinori Tsubouchi. Yasui had a .281/.312/.393 batting line in 1949, and he improved to .300/.329/.478 with 11 homers in 1950.
The Shizuoka native jumped to the Taiyo Whales in 1951, and he batted .321/.352/.502 with 13 homers and 8 triples. He was 2nd in triples (10 behind Kaneda) and 4th in batting (between Kaneda and Fumio Fujimura). Yasui then had a .291/.333/.442 batting line with 28 doubles in 1952, ranking 4th in doubles (tied with Tsuguo Goto and Tetsuharu Kawakami) and 10th in batting (between Goto and Mitsuo Uno). He went to the Kokutetsu Swallows in 1953, and he performed a .246/.286/.353 batting line for them. After hitting .258/.290/.359 in 1954, Yasui was sent to the Kintetsu Buffaloes in 1955 and he recorded a .245/.275/.296 batting line in 81 games. The Buffaloes then released him, and Yasui signed with the Daiei Stars. His batting line was .273/.303/.365 in 1956, but he slumped to .238/.282/.279 in 1957. He announced his retirement after the 1957 season.
Overall, Yasui hit .267/.304/.376 with 1,298 hits and 70 homers in 13 years in NPB. As of 2023, he was 53th in triples in NPB history, tying Kensuke Tanaka and Yuichi Honda.
