Talk:Steve Dalkowski
Dalkowski was the model for "Nuke" Laloosh in the movie "Bull Durham." The director of the movie, who wrote the script, (Ron Shelton)had once played on the same team as Dalkowski. I have commented elsewhere that Steve is reportedly the "fastest pitcher who ever lived." But he was wild, became an alcoholic, and is currently in a rest home because of the alcoholic damage to his body. Because of the great velocity of his fastball, he was nicknamed "White Lightning." I am nearly obsessed with trying to find out the secret to this great velocity, as he was not a big guy, and really did not take care of himself physically. Also -- his story is fascinating because of how long baseball has been around, and the fact that so many great pitchers have performed, and yet Dalkowski is generally considered far and away the fastest of them all. -- Pitcher53
Is that last edit lifted wholesale from wikipedia ? If so, let's reverse, because we're not wikipedia... --Philippe 11:57, 23 November 2008 (EST)
It looks like it so I reversed it. - --Mischa 12:56, 23 November 2008 (EST)
39 WP, 22 H his first year; wow! No wonder he was the stuff of anecdotes. - --Mischa (talk) 13:06, 1 October 2013 (EDT)
Its still fun to just look at his stat lines. 6.2 H/9, 12.2 BB/9, 12.6 K/9. Amazing combination. Jeff (talk) 23:34, 24 April 2020 (UTC)
