Talk:Rogers Hornsby

From BR Bullpen

You want to list players whose opinions have been recorded in print, I'm ok with that, but it's hardly objective to say that every player who played for Hornsby had a low opinion of him.

Veeck describes in his book how the whole '52 Browns team bought him a cup for firing Hornsby after only 51 games. Then the Reds fired him after 198 games to avoid another revolt. --Just me 02:44, 1 Apr 2006 (EST)

Your comments are about his managing, so I changed the first paragraph to separate out the playing from the managing. - Randy

I honestly don't know what teammates thought of him, but its well documented what his players thought of him. --Just me 22:50, 1 Apr 2006 (EST)

I just finished writing the entry for John McGraw, who was known as "Little Napoleon" for his tactics with players. I won't argue that Hornsby was a good manager, but a good manager is not necessarily popular with his players. - Randy

There were two Bill Hornsby in the minors - Bill K. (1935-1942) and Bill P. (1946-1951). Both were position players. Which was Rogers' son? - --Mischa 20:41, 23 April 2008 (EDT)

damn, didn't document that well. I'll go find it. --Jeff 20:49, 23 April 2008 (EDT)

Outfielder, looks like he started in 1946. [1] --Jeff 21:21, 23 April 2008 (EDT)
