I don't understand the idea that comes up of "oh, he's 6' 3" so he can't stay at catcher". It's like the people who insisted Oneil Cruz couldn't possibly be a shortstop because he's 6' 7" - it didn't matter how well he could play short, just that no one else that size had done so. - Mischa (talk) 23:53, 10 July 2023 (UTC)
There's a long history of big catchers running into physical problems due to the demands of the position, and that in turn affecting their hitting. Bill James wrote about this in his Abstracts. His view was that if you had a catcher, especially one on the bigger side of the scale, who shows a lot of promise as a hitter and is not an outstanding defender, it's better to move him off the position and let him develop as a hitter. Carlos Delgado, Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber are examples. Philippe (talk) 01:06, 11 July 2023 (UTC)
