Talk:OPS

From BR Bullpen

I find the terminology rather confusing. OPS is clear. However, beyond that there doesn't seem to be consistency. I had always thought that when you adjusted the OPS for the park factor, then you got Adjusted OPS. After that, when you normalized the Adjusted OPS, you got Adjusted OPS+ (= normalized adjusted OPS). However, references sometimes seem to use Adjusted OPS interchangeably with OPS+ and with Adjusted OPS+. I think that is an unnecessary confusion. When you have two statistical modifications to make (i.e., {1} adjusting for park factor, and {2} normalization), and you also have two verbal modifiers (i.e., {1}"Adjusted", and {2}"+"), then it only makes sense that one verbal modifier stands for one statistical modification and the other stands for the other modification. - Randy 23:28, 1 August 2007 (EDT)
