Talk:Jose Rodriguez (rodrijo01)
There appear to be two players named Jose Rodriguez from the period 1910-30, and it's very hard to tell them apart. One was a Cuban while the other was a Negro Leaguer. Although the www.cubanball.com site has a photo of a J. Rodriguez as manager of Almendares (on the page for the major leaguer), I'm not 100% convinced it's the same guy as the major leaguer. Can anyone find more info about either Rodriguez? Oddly, while you'd think a nickname like "El Hombre Goma" would yield lots of references, it doesn't seem to. - Randy 22:29, 9 January 2009 (EST)
The Biographical Encyclopedia of the Negro Baseball Leagues says Jose Rodriguez played in Cuba from 1913-1939 (when he was in his mid-40s) and in the Negro Leagues from 1913-1921. He was not only a catcher but also played 1B, 2B and 3B. It doesn't mention the majors. it says he is a member of the Cuban Baseball Hall of Fame.
Cuban Baseball: A Statistical History lists that Jose Rodriguez as playing several positions, including 1B and 2B, during his long career. It lists a minor Jose Rodriguez as an infielder from 1919-1921. I doubt that's the same guy - I think the Negro Leaguer is the same as the major leaguer. - --Mischa 20:46, 10 January 2009 (EST)
Possibly correct, although this post (which I'm not saying is correct) claims that the two have different heights, weights and birth dates. I haven't found any of those. Cubans - see the last post on the page. - Randy 23:34, 10 January 2009 (EST)
