Baseball Digest says he joined the Navy not long after he signed in 1955. Wikipedia says he served in 1956-57. He was in a major league game in June 1955 and he was in a few minor league games in 1957, so somewhere in the 1955-57 period seems possible. - Randy 23:33, 30 August 2011 (EDT)
