Talk:Joe Carter
This line "Breaking in with the 1983 Chicago Cubs, Carter was a raw, unpolished rookie but the emerging talent was clear to those who saw him play that year" strikes me as highly objective. How can you prove that? Did dozens of people all rave about him then?? - --Mischa 14:55, 20 August 2006 (EDT)
You mean subjective rather than objective. OK, I saw him play and that was my impression, but consider also that he came up because the Cubs management thought he was worth giving the shot and then the Cleveland management thought he was worth trading Rick Sutcliffe to get. I realize my impressions were subjective, but then Bill James would be the very first to say you don't want to lose the evidence of eye-witnesses from the time. Would you go with "one observer thought him a raw, unpolished rookie but with undeniable emerging talent"? - Randy 15:15 20 August 2006 (EDT)
Or even "some observers" and note the evidence to support this claim from baseball administrators. As for a team wanting to give a player a shot as a rookie, that really doesn't indicate someone with "emerging talent" that was clear to all who saw him play. - --Mischa 15:21, 20 August 2006 (EDT)
Is Yusuf Carter Fred Carter's son or nephew? - --Mischa 14:02, 8 June 2008 (EDT)
