Talk:Cody Ransom
This article:[1] mentions that "His grandfather, Roy, was a Yankee minor-leaguer". I couldn't find any Roy Ransom. Anybody know his mother's maiden name? 69.68.238.142 11:09, 23 April 2009 (EDT)
- His last name was Ransom according to this NYTimes article: [2].
"Ransom said his grandfather Roy Ransom was a Yankees’ farmhand during the 1940s.
“My dad told me a week ago he actually found a newspaper clipping in my grandpa’s wallet that my dad still has,” Ransom said. “He made it to Double A and his last season he hit .298 as a second baseman.”
Ransom said his grandfather died during Ransom’s second year in college." 69.68.238.142 11:15, 23 April 2009 (EDT)
The only Ransom from the 40s was Walter Ransom, who was a middle infielder but was not in the Yankee chain and never came close to AA. - --Mischa 12:04, 23 April 2009 (EDT)
I have confirmed that he was a signed player by the Yankees. The March 19, 1946 Port Arthur News had this article (edited for just the relevant parts):
"The turnout of 33 candidates for positions as Beaumont Exporters Monday was proof that the return of Texas League baseball to the Sabine area is an actuality. Of the men, 24 have already signed contracts....
Both the Beaumont and Joplin clubs are members of the of the Yankee chain....
Men with contracts who reported were ... Roy Ransom, Harry Ragone and Pete Kline, shortstops...."
It mentioned that they were preparing for an April 1 exhibition against the parent club. Still looking for evidence of regular season action. 69.68.238.142 14:33, 23 April 2009 (EDT)
