Talk:2017 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers (Rosters)
Is that Kevin Young the former Pittsburgh Pirates player coaching for France. And I'm surprised to see Samuel Meurant on the list of players; he's 44 and hasn't played competitively in four years. He'd make a good coach, however. --Philippe (talk) 10:22, 9 March 2016 (EST)
Not sure about Young - my source for coaching info was here, which just gave names. As for Meurant, I was surprised too. The French roster was listed here. Unless it's a son by the same name it is surprising. - --Mischa (talk) 13:34, 9 March 2016 (EST)
Re: the Nicaraguan team, Carlos Gonzalez is a Reds minor leaguer - no idea which Carlos Gonzalez (minorsxx) he would be without making up a full disambig. I'm pretty sure I got the right Nelson Cruz as the listing I found mentions he's Dominican and is pitching coach and that Nelson Cruz is a Dominican who has been a pitching coach. - --Mischa (talk) 14:15, 9 March 2016 (EST)
About Kevin Young, I found the French Federation website, and it's this guy, another former teammate of Eric Gagné with the Capitales de Québec (Gélinas, Naccarata and Argumedes were also selected through that route; it's a bit of cronyism, but I think Eric wanted to recruit persons who both were familiar with North American baseball and spoke French, and that basin is pretty small). I did more digging on Meurant; he did join the French Baseball Academy as a pitching coach in 2014, but also decided to begin pitching again last year, because he felt in the best shape he had been in years, or so he says. --Philippe (talk) 09:17, 10 March 2016 (EST)
