Biographical Information[edit]
Takumi Akiyama made his Nippon Pro Baseball debut in 2010.
Akiyama hit 48 home runs in high school. He was a fourth-round pick of the Hanshin Tigers in 2009 NPB draft. He was the first Hanshin rookie out of high school to make his debut in a start versus the Yomiuri Giants, an impressive feat in that the two clubs had been rivals for over 60 years. He was 4-3 with a 3.35 ERA and .228 opponent average in 7 starts as a rookie in 2010. On September 12, he tossed a four-hit shutout against the Yakult Swallows. He got five votes for the 2010 Central League Rookie of the Year Award, tying Naomichi Donoue for second, well back of Hisayoshi Chono's 233.
Akiyama's repertoire includes a fastball (peak 93 mph), curveball, slider and forkball.
