Biographical Information[edit]
Taketoshi Goto was a high school and professional teammate of Daisuke Matsuzaka.
Goto went 3 for 11 in the 2001 Baseball World Cup, backing up Akihiro Higashide at third base. Goto hit .190/.370/.286 as Japan's first baseman in the 2002 World University Championship. He was drafted by the Seibu Lions out of college in the first round of 2002 NPB draft. He had a fine rookie year in 2003, hitting .262/.312/.460 in 252 AB over 101 games as a frequently-used DH and pinch-hitter; he also subbed for Alex Cabrera at first base. He slumped to .191/.269/.234 in 24 games in 2004 and .205/.340/.308 in 25 games the next year. Goto did not play for Seibu in 2006. When Takeya Nakamura struggled in 2007, Goto got a chance at third but only hit .162/.220/.162.
Moved to left field in 2008, Goto rebounded with a .301/.370/.602 batting line and 12 homers in 166 AB.
