T206
T206 was a baseball card set which was included in 16 different cigarette brands' packs from 1909 to 1911. They were among one of the most successful baseball card sets up to that time. The 1909 T206 Honus Wagner card has sold for over a million dollars due to Wagner being anti-smoking and not wanting his face featured on the cards (he asked for cards bearing his likeness to be removed from circulation, but a few had managed to get through before that). The set featured 524 players in total (390 major leaguers and 134 minor leaguers). The cigarette brands that featured T206's included the following:
- American Beauty
- Broadleaf
- Carolina Brights
- Cycle
- Drum
- El Principe de Gales
- Hindu
- Lenox
- Old Mill
- Piedmont
- Polar Bear
- Sovereign
- Sweet Caporal
- Tolstoi
- Ty Cobb
- Uzit
Some cards also had blank backs, which makes it impossible to tell with which brands they were distributed. While the cards were distributed with cigarettes, they were popular with kids, and this caused a bit of a moral panic as children were suspected of doing untoward things, including acquiring (and smoking) cigarettes themselves in order to get their hands on these cards.
