Biographical Information

Sweetbreads Bailey was born "Abraham Lincoln Bailey", one of nine children. He played in the Joliet City League and then semi-pro ball. He played in the minors in Kenosha. The Chicago Cubs signed him in 1917, but he served first in the military with the 72nd field artillery. In 52 big league games with the Cubs and Brooklyn Robins, Sweetbreads was 4-7 with a 4.59 ERA. After his major league career, he pitched in New Orleans, Omaha, and Beaumont through 1924. He died in 1939 after an illness lasting several years.

He made one fan's All Thanksgiving Team, along with Turkey Stearnes, Rabbit Maranville, Goose Goslin, Pie Traynor, and others. He is also on the team of players named after presidents, along with Grover Cleveland Alexander and possibly Linc Blakely and Link Wasem, along with the various players named after George Washington.
