Subway Series
A Subway Series is a series of games played between teams located in the same city. The term originally comes from the situation in New York City, where a fan could travel by subway from the ballpark of say the New York Yankees to that of the New York Giants or Brooklyn Dodgers. The term was applied to encounters betweeen these teams in the World Series. Regular-season meetings between the Giants and Dodgers, before the two teams moved to California were not considered to be "Subway Series".
The classic form of Subway Series was between the Yankees and Brooklyn Dodgers, as the two teams met 7 times in the World Series between 1941 and 1956. There were 6 meetings between the Yankees and Giants, over a longer period (1921 to 1951). There has only been one true Subway Series since 1956, the 2000 Series between the Yankees and New York Mets. The two all-Chicago and all-St. Louis World Series are also usually considered to be "Subway Series".
