Category:Subway Series
Fourteen times in baseball history, the World Series has involved a pair of New York City teams, earning the nickname "Subway Series". The New York Yankees represented the American League each of these years, and generally they were victorious, winning eleven times. The New York Giants faced them six times, winning the first two meetings, but none thereafter. Seven times the Yankees met the Brooklyn Dodgers, who were champs only in 1955. In 2000, they were pitted against the New York Mets for the first time, and the Yanks won the Series in five games.
Other notable World Series matching geographic rivals include the meeting between the Cubs and White Sox in Chicago in 1906, the all-St. Louis battle of 1944, the 1985 I-70 Series between St. Louis and Kansas City, and the Battle of the Bay where San Francisco and Oakland were separated by just eight miles.
