Stroudsburg Poconos

The Stroudsburg Poconos of Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania began play in the newly formed Interstate League in 1932. On June 20th, the league folded with the Poconos in first place with a 19-7 record.
In 1946, another team called the Stroudsburg Poconos joined another brand new circuit, the North Atlantic League, and finished third with a 72-47 mark. John Jaust paced the circuit with a 1.66 ERA. The next year, the team became a part of the New York Yankees farm system but fell to sixth place. One of the few highlights of the 1947 campaign was pitcher Joe Sebir throwing a no-hitter on June 19th. Sebir also led the league with 237 strikeouts.
The Poconos lost their affiliation in 1948, but skipper Frank Radler led the team to an improved 72-59 record. On the mound, Radler also won the Triple Crown with 20 wins, a 2.18 ERA, and 201 strikeouts. They became a part of the Cleveland Indians organization the following season and went 101-36 to capture a league championship. Outfielder John Rothenhausler hit .377 with 128 RBIs while first baseman Harry Warner hit .347 with 17 home runs. Radler went 12-2 with a league leading 1.59 ERA, Ed Varhely paced the circuit with 20 wins, and Dale Melms was 15-5 with a 1.81 ERA and 7 shutouts.
Without the Indians affiliation in 1950, the Poconos fell to second place with a 80-50 record. Radler once again led the league with 21 wins and a 1.81 ERA, and Chester Krajeski slugged 13 homers. Following the 1950 season, the North Atlantic League folded and the Poconos ceased operations.
