Biographical Information[edit]

Steve Soderstrom was drafted by the New York Mets in the 15th Round of the 1990 amateur draft. He didn't sign. Then, in 1993, he was drafted by the San Francisco Giants sixth overall in the 1993 amateur draft. He spent three years in the Giants' organization before getting to the Major Leagues.

He was in the Majors in September 1996, winning two games. Afterwards, he pitched in Triple A ball through 2000, going 11-4 in 1998.

He currently resides in Turlock, CA, where he was born and where he went to high school. His son Tyler Soderstrom, a catcher, was a 1st round pick of the Oakland A's (26th overall) in the 2020 amateur draft, making them only the 10th father/son duo in history to both be drafted in the first round. Another son, Tate Soderstrom, was an outfielder at the University of Arizona and University of California, San Diego before becoming a scout with the Kansas City Royals.
