Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Steve Montgomery played in the minors for nearly a decade then became a pitching coach.
Montgomery originally signed with the Kansas City Royals and went 1-1 with a 1.56 ERA and 3 saves in a dozen games for the GCL Royals in 1994. He moved on to the Johnstown Steal of the independent Frontier League in 1995, appearing in 33 games without giving up an earned run while recording 9 saves.
After stints in the Baltimore Orioles, Los Angeles Dodgers and Boston Red Sox organizations, Montgomery moved on to the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks of the Northern League in 2001. In three seasons with the club, he notched 47 saves. He became the Redhawks' pitching coach in 2004 and held that position for ten seasons, while also serving on the North Dakota State University coaching staff from 2005 to 2009.
Montgomery was named manager of the Sioux City Explorers for the 2014 season.
