Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Steve Johnson played in the minor and independent leagues from 1992 to 1996. Signed by the St. Louis Cardinals, he had a decent inaugural campaign, going 7-8 with a 3.19 ERA in 23 games (17 starts) for the Savannah Cardinals. In 124 innings, he allowed 115 hits and 24 walks for a 1.121 WHIP; he struck out 90 batters. He never matched that level of success again and peaked at Double A. After leaving the Cardinals organization following the 1994 campaign, he joined the indy Tri-City Posse of the Western League for a couple years.

Overall, Johnson went 35-35 with a 4.04 ERA in 138 games (69 starts) at all professional levels. In 579 innings, he allowed 624 hits and 145 walks, while striking out 360 batters.

Following his playing career, he served as head coach at Butler Community College (2004-2010) and Fort Hays State University (2011-2018). His club was the runner-up in the 2012 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Tournament. He also coached the summer collegiate El Dorado Broncos of the Jayhawk League in 2007.
