Biographical Information[edit]

Relief pitcher Steve Callahan spent four years in the minor leagues, from 1989 to 1992.

He was drafted twice, initially by the St. Louis Cardinals in 1988 and then by the San Francisco Giants in the 17th round of the 1989 amateur draft, a few picks ahead of infielder Mark Grudzielanek.

He never pitched above High-A. He had a 2.25 ERA in 26 games for the Everett Giants in 1989 and a 2.25 mark in 41 games for the Clinton Giants in 1990. In 1991, he posted a 2.09 mark in 41 games for the San Jose Giants and in 1992, he had a 9-3 record and a 3.53 ERA in 49 games for the Modesto A's. The latter two years, he averaged more than a strikeout per inning.

Overall, Callahan was 22-15 with a 2.64 ERA in 157 games; in 242 innings, he allowed 212 hits and 107 walks, while striking out 216 batters.
