Biographical information[edit]
Steve Bean was a first-round pick.
He hit .427 with 4 HR and 32 RBI as a high school senior. He was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the first round of the 2012 Amateur Draft. He was selected 59th overall. The pick was compensation for the loss of Edwin Jackson to free agency. It was the last of five Cardinals first-rounders, following Michael Wacha, James Ramsey, Stephen Piscotty and Patrick Wisdom. He turned down a University of Texas scholarship to sign. Sent to the Johnson City Cardinals, he struggled in his first 13 games as a pro, going 6 for 43 with a double, 10 walks and 17 strikeouts. He did throw out 7 of 14 attempted base thieves.
