Biographical Information[edit]

Stetson Allie was a 2010 draftee.

Allie entered the 2010 amateur draft as the #8 prospect on the Baseball America list. He had been timed at 100 mph a few times in high school, usually hitting the high 90s as a senior and throwing his slider in the high 80s. He was considered to have the second-best "stuff" of any pitcher in the draft after Jameson Taillon. Due to concern about control and salary demands, Allie fell to the second round of the draft before the Pittsburgh Pirates chose him (having taken Taillon in round one). The team signed him for an over-slot bonus of around $2.5 million right before the signing deadline, a deal comparable to some of the top-10 picks.

Allie made his pro debut on June 20, 2011, with the GCL Pirates. He had three strikeouts, three walks, three hits and three runs in only 2 1/3 innings. He hit 95 mph on the radar gun, but at one point forgot about runners on base and allowed an uncontested double steal.

After a brief, unsuccessful stint as a pitcher, he moved to the field, playing right field and first base for a few years and hitting as many as 21 home runs in a season. He returned to the mound in 2017 and stayed there for good.
