Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Stan Leland was the Houston Astros' second-round pick in 1977, but struggled to a 26-58 record (.310 W%) and a 4.61 ERA in five minor league seasons. In the draft, he was taken one pick after pitcher Bobby Sprowl and a couple slots ahead of outfielder Mookie Wilson.

He never had a winning record, beginning with a 3-6, 4.35 line in 1977, then following that with marks of 3-12, 6.66 in 1978, 6-15, 3.80 in 1979, 8-11, 3.49 in 1980 and 6-14, 5.84 in 1981. In his only try at Triple-A in 1981, he went 1-4 with a 7.36 ERA in 5 starts for the Tucson Toros.

Overall, in addition to his middling record and ERA, Leland allowed 694 hits and 315 walks in 656 innings (1.538 WHIP), while striking out 367 batters.
