Biographical Information[edit]

Bobby Sprowl made his major league debut with the Boston Red Sox in 1978 during their epic pennant race with the New York Yankees, starting three games and going 0-2 with an ERA of 6.29. One of these was against the Yankees on September 10th at Fenway Park; he did not make it out of the 1st inning, giving up 3 runs on 1 hit and 4 walks and was charged with a 7-4 loss that was part of the infamous "Boston Massacre" in which the Yankees swept a key four-game series in Boston by a combined score of 42-9. Prior to his call-up, he had gone 16-7, 3.33 between the AA Bristol Red Sox and AAA Pawtucket Red Sox.

He later coached Shelton State Community College from 1986 until the present with a four-year break as an assistant at the University of Alabama [1]. His son Jon-Mark Sprowl reached AAA.
