Spec Richardson was General Manager of the Houston Astros from 1967 to 1975. He then served as GM of the San Francisco Giants from 1976 to 1981. With the Giants, he was named major league Executive of the Year by The Sporting News in 1978 after a bold spring training trade for starting pitcher Vida Blue turned the team into surprise contenders.
