Biographical Information[edit]
Soma Yamauchi pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 8 years.
Yamauchi was drafted by the Chunichi Dragons in the first round of the 2007 NPB draft, but he mainly stayed in the minors as he only pitched 11 games combined in his first three seasons. He recorded a 1.73 ERA with a 3-2 record in 11 games in 2011, and he broke out in 2012. Yamauchi went 10-7 with a 2.43 ERA, and he was 8th in wins (tied with Atsushi Nomi, Randy Messenger, Hirokazu Sawamura and Kyohei Muranaka) and 8th in ERA (between Nomi and D.J. Houlton). However, the 2012 season was his last season as a productive starter, and his ERA rose to 5.54 in 9 games in 2013. He only had one appearance in 2014, and the Dragons released him after the 2015 season. He then signed with the Rakuten Golden Eagles, but he stayed in the minors for nearly the entire 2016 season and he announced his retirement. Yamauchi later became an assistant coach for Meijo University in 2017.
Overall, Yamauchi was 17-15 with a 3.01 ERA, struck out 153 and pitched 310 2/3 innings in 8 seasons in the NPB.
