Biographical Information[edit]
Slava Shmelev has been on the Russian national team.
In the 2013 European U-18 Championship, he was 2 for 10 with a run and two RBI. [1] He made the Russian senior squad by the 2016 European Championship, now as a pitcher. He got into one game, starting against Greece. He allowed 8 hits, 5 walks and 9 runs (8 earned) in 2 1/3 IP; another Viacheslav, Viacheslav Vasiliev, relieved him. He did not finish with Russia's highest ERA as Kiril Chermoshentsev was higher. [2]
In the 2017 B-Level European Championship, he allowed three runs in three innings and was 1 for 2 at the plate. He closed out a combined two-hitter against the Ukraine, allowing a Roman Boyko single in the 9th. In the championship game, he allowed one run in 2 2/3 IP (4 H) in middle relief when Russia lost to Lithuania. [3] For the 2018 World University Championship, he beat Hong Kong. [4]
