Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Simon Mathews played in the minor leagues from 2017 to 2019, briefly reaching AAA for 2 games in 2018 and 3 in 2019. He later became a coach.

His college career took place in two institutions better known for their academic excellence than their baseball program, Temple University in Philadelphia, PA and Georgetown University in Washington, DC, from which he graduated in 2017 with a bachelor's degree in political economy. He changed colleges because Temple discontinued its baseball program after his freshman season. He then signed with the Los Angeles Angels as an undrafted free agent and his entire pro career took place in their system. He moved around a lot during his career, playing with three teams in each of his three seasons as the Angels used him to fill holes at various levels instead of having him make a steady progression up the organizational ladder. He was let go when the COVID-19 pandemic shut down baseball in March of 2020, as many organizations got rid of non-prospects at that time.

He then went to work as a business development specialist for a while before being hired by the Cincinnati Reds as a minor league assistant pitching coordinator. In 2025, he was promoted to the major league coaching staff as assistant pitching coach.
