Biographical Information[edit]

Starting pitcher Si Lambert pitched in the Brooklyn Dodgers system in 1945 and from 1947 to 1951. He peaked at AA and once led his league in wins and strikeouts.

He made a brief appearance with the Zanesville Dodgers in 1945, appearing in a single game and working two innings. He served in the US Army from July 1945 to December 1946, pitching for Army teams. The tall southpaw returned to the minor league field in 1947. He made an outstanding return, going 23-8 with 20 complete games in 38 appearances. In 240 innings, he allowed only 178 hits while striking out 232 batters and walking 153 for Zanesville. He led the Ohio State League in wins (four ahead of Edward Post), strikeouts (11 more than Tony Wesoloski) and walks (8 ahead of Joe Nuxhall), finished second in ERA (behind Post's 2.02), tied Bob Brunner and Wesoloski for second in complete games, and finished third in games pitched and innings pitched (behind Dick Strahs and Post). He also hit .286/.400/.400 as a two-way threat. He would never equal that success again.

In 1948, he was 13-7 with a 3.60 ERA in 27 games for the Danville Dodgers to tie Paul Stuffel for 9th in the Three-I League in wins. He was 4th with 106 walks. He repeated at 13 wins in 1949, with the Miami Sun Sox (1-5, 4.66) and Grand Rapids Jets (12-3, 3.27), he was a combined 13-8 with a 3.71 ERA in 37 games. He tied for 10th in the Central League in victories. He pitched for the Elmira Pioneers and Mobile Bears in 1950, going 4-7. He made 14 appearances for Elmira in 1951 to wrap up his career.

He later worked in the scrap metal business. He later opened two of his own businesses, the Star Recycling Center and (in his late 70s) The Emporium Antiques and Collectibles.
