Biographical Information[edit]

Bob Brunner pitched in the minor leagues in 1945 and from 1947 to 1951. At 17 years old in 1945, he went 12-7 with 17 complete games in 22 starts for the Newark Moundsmen; in 153 innings, he walked just 22 batters, but allowed 201 hits, giving him a 1.458 WHIP. He joined the United States Army in October of that year and remained there through May 1947. Rejoining the pro ranks in 1947, he went 16-10, 4.62 with 20 complete games in 31 games for Newark. Again, control was not an issue—he allowed 65 walks in 220 innings—but he surrendered 274 hits to give him a 1.541 WHIP. Over the next three years, his hit rates stayed high while his walk rates increased, as he went 10-10, 5.18 with 190 hits and 54 walks (1.544 WHIP) in 158 innings for the Springfield Browns in 1948, 3-9, 4.46 with 124 hits and 55 walks (1.514 WHIP) in 111 innings for Springfield in 1949 and 7-7, 5.26 with 139 hits and 57 walks (1.849 WHIP) in 106 innings for the Vancouver Capilanos in 1950. His 1951 statistical record is not available.

Overall, he went at least 48-43 with at least 49 complete games in 138-plus games over six seasons. In at least 748 innings, he allowed 928-plus hits and 242-plus walks. He was also decent with the bat, hitting .243 in 107 at-bats in 1947 and .243 in 37 ABs in 1950.
