Biographical Information[edit]

Shoki Kasahara pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball and for the Japanese national team. His father is NPB pitcher Eiichi Kasahara, and his brother is NPB pitcher Taiga Kasahara.

Kasahara was drafted by the Yomiuri Giants in the fifth round of the 2008 NPB draft. He spent the first four years in the NPB Farm Leagues. He represented Japan in the 2010 Intercontinental Cup, throwing a mercy rule five-inning no-hitter to beat Kamolphan Kanjanavisut and Thailand. He was 1-0 with a 4.70 ERA, getting lit up by Taiwan, entering the placement games. In the 5th/6th place game, he blanked South Korea for the first three (2 H, 4 K) before Shoma Sato took over.

He debuted in NPB on 2012. Kasahara allowed 8 runs in 13 innings in the 2012 season. He and his father was father-and-son pair to both start in NPB history. He had a 3.33 ERA in 30 games in 2013 as the Giants' main long reliever, but he slumped to a 4.26 ERA in 26 games in the next season. The Saitama native struggled in 2015 as his ERA rose to 6.16 in 20 appearances. After the 2015 season, Kasahara was banned for lifetime along with Satoshi Fukuda and Ryuya Matsumoto for betting on games.

Overall, Kasahara was 7-1 and a 4.34 ERA and pitched 116 innings in 4 seasons in NPB.
