Biographical Information[edit]

Satoshi Fukuda pitched in NPB for 9 years.

Fukuda was the closer of Tohoku Fukushi University when they beat the Nihon University in the 2004 All-Japan University Baseball Championship Series, and he was named the MVP of the tournament. The Yomiuri Giants selected him in the first round of the 2005 NPB draft, and he was 3-2 with a 5.47 ERA in his rookie year. Fukuda went 5-5 with a 5.28 ERA in 2007, and he only pitched 2 games with the big club in 2008. The Giants then sent him to the Dominican Winter League after the '08 season, and he surrendered 4 runs in 2 innings for the Gigantes del Cibao.

The Osaka native was 2-0 with a 3.48 ERA in 2009, then he had a 3.68 ERA in 18 games with a 3-4 record in 2010. Fukuda only pitched 6 games in the major league in 2011, then he broke out in 2012. In 50 relief outings, Fukuda had a solid 1.61 ERA, and he also collected 17 holds. He only allowed a run in 3 2/3 innings in the 2012 CLCS, and he pitched 2 2/3 shutout innings combined in 3 games in the 2012 Nippon Series. The Giants beat the Nippon Ham Fighters in 6 games, and Fukuda won his only title. However, he suffered from a right elbow injury in 2013, and his ERA rose to 5.00 in 17 games. He had a 9.64 ERA in 12 games in 2014, and he stayed in the ni-gun for the entire 2015 season. After the 2015 season, Fukuda was banned for life along with Shoki Kasahara and Ryuya Matsumoto for betting on games.

Overall, Fukuda was 22-15 with a 4.15 ERA, collected 25 holds in 151 appearances, struck out 205 and pitched 286 innings in 9 seasons in the NPB.
