Biographical Information[edit]
Shinya Ashizawa played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 10 years.
Ashizawa was drafted by the Yakult Swallows in the 5th round of the 1975 NPB draft, but he spent his first 3 seasons in the minors; he only got 53 at-bats combined with the big club. He played 81 games with a .235/.259/.359 batting line in 1981, but that was his only season as a regular of the big club. Ashizawa never got more than 50 at-bats in the rest of his career, and he announced his retirement in 1988. He was the battery coach for the Hiroshima Carp from 1991 to 1997 and for the Taichung Agan from 1998 to 2000. He then managed the Kagawa Olive Guyners from 2005 to 2006 and Oisix Niigata Albirex Baseball Club from 2008 to 2010. He was the battery coach for the Yokohama BayStars in 2011, and Keimei Gakuen High School named him their coach in 2015.
Overall, Ashizawa hit .208/.251/.293 with 84 hits and 5 homers in 10 seasons in NPB.
