Biographical Information[edit]

Shinnosuke Ogasawara has played in Nippon Pro Baseball.

Ogasawara represented Japan in the 2015 U-18 Baseball World Cup, going 1-0 with one unearned run and 11 K in 8 IP. [1] The Nippon Ham Fighters and the Chunichi Dragons both selected him in the first round of the 2015 NPB draft, and the Dragons won the lottery.[2] Ogasawara joined the rotation as a rookie, and went 2-6 with a 3.36 ERA in 2016. However, he struggled in 2017 because he gave up too many homers. He was 5-8 with a 4.84 RA, and led the Central League with 21 homers allowed. Ogasawara improved slightly in 2018 as he was 5-6 with a 4.11 ERA, but he underwent left elbow surgery in August and missed the rest of the season and most of the 2019 season.[3]

The Kanagawa native recovered from the injury and had a 2.56 ERA in 7 starts in 2019, but his ERA rose to 7.11 and he spent the 2020 season mainly in the NPB Farm Leagues. Ogasawara bounced back in 2021, recorded a 3.64 ERA in 25 starts and collected 8 wins. He had a huge improvement in 2022, and completed his first 10-win season with a 2.76 ERA. He ranked 2nd in strikeouts (12 behind Shosei Togo), 5th in ERA (.71 behind Koyo Aoyagi) and 5th in wins (3 behind Aoyagi). The southpaw was selected into the 2023 NPB All-Star Game, and relieved starter Shoki Murakami in the 3rd inning of Game 1. He pitched two innings and allowed a solo shot to Yuki Yanagita.[4] Ogasawara ended up 7-12 with a 3.59 ERA, led the CL in runs and hits allowed, ranked 5th in strikeouts (40 behind Shota Imanaga).

Ogasawara's repertoire includes a fastball (peak 95 mph), changeup, slider and knuckle curve.
