Biographical Information[edit]

Shichinosuke Sakurai pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 3 years.

Sakurai was signed by the Dai Tokyo club when they were founded in 1936, and he was 0-2 with a 4.35 ERA in the spring season. He went 1-10 with a 5.20 ERA in the fall season, and he led the JPBL in losses. Sakurai then went 0-5 with a 4.50 ERA in the 1937 spring season, and his ERA was 5.80 in 20 games with a 2-3 record in the fall season. He was turned into a first baseman in 1938, and he hit .179/.241/.244 in 34 games in the spring season. Sakurai only played 6 games in the fall season, and he announced his retirement.

Overall, Sakurai was 3-20 with a 5.15 ERA, struck out 92 and pitched 289 1/3 innings in 2 years in NPB.
