Biographical Information[edit]

Sheng-Chin Hung pitched in the minor leagues and the CPBL for 10 years.

Hung was the second Taiwanese pitcher to sign with the Pittsburgh Pirates, doing so in July 2009; he followed Chi-Hung Cheng. Hung was signed out of high school. His repertoire includes a fastball (peak time of 91 mph), changeup and curveball. He made his pro debut on June 21, blowing a save in the 9th of a GCL Pirates-GCL Yankees game by allowing two hits and one run unearned. He struck out the lone out. He was only 1-0 with a 14.18 ERA and 2.17 WHIP in 11 outings. The Pirates released him after this season, and he pitched in the Taiwan amateur league for 3 years.

The Lamigo Monkeys drafted Hung in the fourth round of the 2014 CPBL Draft, and he had a 0.90 ERA in 9 relief outings in his rookie year. He pitched 2 1/3 shutout innings in the 2014 Taiwan Series, and the Monkeys beat the CTBC Brothers in 5 games. Hung pitched 28 games in 2015, but his ERA rose to 5.31. He only pitched 1/3 of a inning in the 2015 Taiwan Series, and he allowed 2 runs. The Monkeys beat the Brothers again in 7 games.

Hung was selected into the 2016 CPBL All-Star Game, and he pitched a shutout inning. He ended up 3-5 with a 6.67 ERA in 40 games. The Monkeys placed Hung mainly in the minors in 2017, so he only played 6 games with the big club. Hung bounced back in 2018, having a 4.01 ERA in 31 relief outings. He pitched 3 1/3 innings with a run allowed in the 2018 Taiwan Series, and the Monkeys beat the Uni-President Lions in 6 games. His ERA rose to 7.33 in 29 games in 29 games in 2019, and he pitched 2 shutout innings in the 2019 Taiwan Series. The Monkeys won another title as they beat the Brothers in 5 games. Hung struggled in 2020 as his ERA was 9.11 in 15 games, and he only had 7 appearances in 2021. The Monkeys released him, and the Fubon Guardians picked him up. Hung only had 2 appearances for Fubon in 2022, and the Guardians released him to end his professional career.

Overall, Hung was 14-17 with a 6.27 ERA, struck out 130 and pitched 232 2/3 innings in 167 appearances in 9 years in the CPBL.
