Biographical Information[edit]
Seung-hak Lee pitched in the minor leagues and KBO.
Lee was drafted by the Lotte Giants in the first round of the 1998 KBO draft, and he decided to go to college first. He represented South Korea in the 1999 Intercontinental Cup, posting a 1.98 ERA in four outings and not getting a decision. He signed with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2001 with a $1.15 million signing bonus, and he had a 7.65 ERA in 4 games for the Batavia Muckdogs and a 3.00 ERA in 3 games for the GCL Phillies in his first season in the US. Lee then went 7-10 with a 3.24 ERA in 2002 for the Lakewood BlueClaws, and he also completed 19 shutout innings with the Clearwater Phillies. He was 11-6 with a 4.96 ERA for the Reading Phillies in 2003, but he surrendered 15 runs in 5 1/3 innings with the AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons.
The Busan native recorded a solid 1.97 ERA in 14 games in Reading in 2004, but he struggled again at the AAA level as he allowed 7 runs in 2 2/3 innings. Lee went 8-9 with a 4.35 ERA for the Red Barons in 2005, and he decided to return to South Korea. The Doosan Bears selected him in the special draft for players from abroad , and he recorded a solid 2.17 ERA with a 7-1 record in 33 games with 3 holds in 2007. Lee pitched 4 games with a 2.70 ERA in the 2007 Korean Series, and the Bears lost to the SK Wyverns in 6 games. However, his ERA rose to 4.98 with a 6-5 record in 2008, and he announced his retirement after missing the entire 2009 season. Lee later became the pitching coach for the Sangmu Phoenix in 2015 and minor league pitching coach for the KT Wiz in 2016. Busan Technical High School named him their new coach in 2017.
Overall, Lee was 13-6 with a 3.54 ERA, struck out 63 and pitched 122 innings in 2 seasons in the KBO.
