Seok-jin Park has pitched for over a decade in the Korea Baseball Organization. He won a Bronze Medal in the Olympics.
Park debuted with the Samsung Lions in 1995, going 4-6 with a 4.71 ERA. In 1996, he went 2-2 with 2 saves and a 4.68 ERA with 71 hits and 57 2/3 IP. He was traded to the Lotte Giants for former Rookie of the Year Dong-soo Lee. In 1997, he was 1-4 with a 7.02 ERA, giving up 64 hits in 42 2/3 IP. During 1998, he had a 0-1, 6.46 record. In 1999, Park improved to 11-3 with 2 saves and a 3.58 ERA. He finished 5th in the KBO in ERA.
Seok-jin went 7-6 with 8 saves and a 2.48 ERA for the 2000 Giants. Had he pitched enough innings to qualify, he would have beaten out Dae-sung Koo for the ERA title. He pitched for South Korea in the 2000 Olympics, leading the Bronze Medalists with five games pitched. He allowed only 8 hits in 15 2/3 innings and went 2-1 with a 1.72 ERA. He led the Korean staff in victories, tying Jose Ibar, Kurt Ainsworth and Jose Contreras for second in the Games, behind Ryan Franklin. His loss was a crucial one; in the semifinals, he tossed a scoreless 8th and got the first out in the 9th before allowing a solo homer to Doug Mientkiewicz that broke a 2-2 tie and gave the USA the win they needed to set up their Gold Medal. Korea settled for Silver.
Park was only 4-10 with 14 saves in 2001, but led the entire KBO with a 2.98 ERA, .14 ahead of runner-up Yoon-ho Shin. Park did not pitch in 2002 and only worked 2 2/3 innings in 2003 (allowing one run). He was traded back to Samsung that off-season. In 2004, he went 4-4 wit ha save and a 2.30 ERA, allowing 47 hits in 62 2/3 IP.
Park was 8-0 with a save and a 3.47 ERA in 70 games pitches for the 2005 Lions. In 2006, he was 3-1 with a 4.84 ERA, giving up 37 hits in 22 1/3 IP. He moved to the Lotte Giants for 2007 and was 1-1 with a 4.35 ERA in 27 games. He was awful in 2008, giving up 8 hits and 4 runs in one inning of work.
Through 2008, Park has gone 45-38 with 28 saves and a 3.83 ERA in 381 games in the KBO.
