Biographical Information[edit]
Shortstop Sebastian Walcott was signed by the Texas Rangers as an international amateur free agent on January 15, 2023, out of the Bahamas. He was considered the #8 prospect of his international class and signed for a bonus of $3.2 million.
Already 6'3" at the time of his signing (he would grow another inch within a year), he started off his playing career with 9 games for the DSL Rangers Blue, then moved to the ACL Rangers and finished up the 2023 season with the Hickory Crawdads of the South Atlantic League, where he was a full five years younger than the average player in the circuit. Overall he hit .246/.335/.471 in 48 games, showing excellent power with 13 doubles, 4 triples and 7 homers. He was named an organizational All-Star following the season.
In 2024, he continued his meteoric rise through the ranks, as he was a regular for Hickory, hitting .261 in 116 games and being named to play in the 2024 Futures Game. He topped this off by being promoted all the way to the AA Frisco RoughRiders on September 10th and hitting .348 with 4 extra-base hits in his 5 games. Overall, his slash line was .265/.344/.452 in 121 games, with 64 runs and 56 RBIs. He was named a SALLY League post-season All-Star and received a ticket to attend spring training with the Rangers as a non-roster invitee in 2025. Many observers were tagging him as the future #1 prospect in baseball at that point.
