Sebastian Bernards tossed 4 1/3 shutout innings for Germany in the 2007 European Junior Championship but walked five. He made his Bundesliga-1 debut that year with the Solingen Alligators, going 0 for 1. In 2008, he was 1-0 with a 4.29 ERA in relief for Solingen, seeing little action behind national team pitchers Enorbel Marquez, Andre Hughes and Jens Cornelsen. During 2009, Bernards started off 3-0 with a 3.74 ERA and made Germany's preliminary 40-man roster for the 2009 Baseball World Cup.
