Biographical Information[edit]

First baseman Sean McGowan was a star at Boston College. In 1997, he hit .360 with 12 home runs, 55 RBI and a .663 slugging percentage and in 1998, he hit .432 with 16 home runs, 55 RBI and a .884 slugging mark. In his final year, he hit .430 with 25 home runs, 70 RBI and a .916 slugging percentage in just 47 games.

The San Francisco Giants took him as their 3rd round draft pick in the 1999 amateur draft, in the same round as future MVP Justin Morneau, a few picks after future All-Star Hank Blalock and ahead of future big league pitcher Alex Graman. He was signed by scout Glenn Tufts.

Starting his professional career off with a bang, he slashed .336/.385/.562 with 15 home runs and 63 RBI in 65 games in 1999, then hit .330/.386/.474 with 12 homers, 118 RBI and 36 doubles in 132 games in 2000. Though he fell to .291/.327/.467 in 2001, he still hit 17 home runs with 82 RBI -- including 14 dingers and 65 RBI in his first taste of Triple A. He slipped to .268 with 5 home runs in 2002. Joining the Boston Red Sox system in 2003, he rebounded to .320/.362/.454 in 97 games, before falling to .262 in 2004 to wrap up his career.

Overall, McGowan batted .301/.348/.447 with 59 home runs and 394 RBI in 619 minor league games.
