Biographical Information[edit]

Second baseman Sean Coyle has played in the Boston Red Sox minor league system since 2010 (through 2014). He was taken by the club in the 3rd round of the 2010 amateur draft, a couple of picks after catcher Cameron Rupp. The signing scout was Chris Calciano and his bonus was $1,300,000.

He has shown good power and speed numbers throughout his career. In 2011, he hit 14 home runs and stole 20 bases for the Greenville Drive and was named a MiLB.com Organization All-Star following the season. MLB.com named him the Red Sox's 17th-best prospect entering the 2012 season. That year, he stole 16 bases, hit 31 doubles and whacked 9 home runs for the Salem Red Sox and was once again named a MiLB.com Organization All-Star.

In 2013, he hit 16 home runs and stole 12 bases in 60 games split between the GCL Red Sox, Greenville and Salem, as he lost time to an injury. He won the Carolina League Championship Series Most Valuable Player honor. In 2014, he was selected to play in the Futures Game after he put up a .335/.410/.583 line with 11 home runs and 13 stolen bases in his first 65 games that season, all spent with the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs. He was also an Eastern League Mid-Season All-Star.

His brother, Thomas Coyle, has played in the minor leagues.
