Sean Buchanan
Biographical Information[edit]
Sean Buchanan played baseball for two years at Dutchess Community College and earned an associates degree in secondary education. He then transferred to SUNY New Paltz where he planned to continue his playing career. Before he could play any games at New Paltz, Buchanan injured his back which ended his playing career. He immediately turned to coaching. He served as a student assistant coach in 2012 and graduated that year with a degree in history. Buchanan would later earn a master's degree in secondary education at DeSales University.
After completing his undergraduate education, Buchanan spent the next decade as a college coach.
- 2013 Assistant coach SUNY New Paltz
- 2014 Assistant coach Dutchess Community College
- Fall 2014 Assistant Coach Bard College
- 2015-2017 Assistant coach & recruiting coordinator Ave Maria University
- 2019 Graduate assistant coach DeSales University
- 2020 Assistant coach & recruiting coordinator Albright College
- 2021 Assistant coach Lehigh University
That is a lot of different jobs in a decade! One interesting aspect of Buchanan's career is that he coached hitters most years, but was hired as a pitching coach at Lehigh.
In addition to coaching at the above schools, Buchanan coached for five summers in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League. He was a coach for the Cooperstown Hawkeyes in 2012. Buchanan was the hitting coach for the Albany Dutchmen in 2013-2014 and he coached the Dutchmen again in 2018-2019.
The Houston Astros hired Buchanan as a pitching coach for the FCL Astros Blue in 2022, Asheville Tourists in 2023, and Corpus Christi Hooks in 2024.
