Biographical Information

Scott May pitched 5 games in the major leagues and was in the minor leagues from 1983 to 1988. He also pitched in Taiwan.

He was born in Wisconsin and attended the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. He had been the only major league player to have attended that college, until the 2009 debut of Jordan Zimmermann. He was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 6th round in the 1983 amateur draft. He spent most of his minor league career, from 1983-1987, in the Dodgers organization. A highlight was in 1985 when he went 10-6 with a 3.47 ERA for AA San Antonio Dodgers of the Texas League.

He was traded after the 1987 season to the Texas Rangers and spent most of 1988 with their AAA Oklahoma City 89ers club in the American Association, going 8-7 with a 2.97 ERA. He came up to the majors in September that year, at the age of 26, and pitched 7 1/3 innings. It was a year in which the top pitcher for the Rangers was 40-year-old Charlie Hough, who led the staff with 15 wins.

He was later traded to the Milwaukee Brewers, for whom he did not appear in the majors, and was signed as a free agent by the Chicago Cubs, for whom he appeared in 2 games in the majors in 1991. 25-year-old Greg Maddux was the top pitcher on the staff that year, with 15 wins.
