Biographical Information[edit]

Third baseman Scott Groot was drafted three times. He was initially taken by the Kansas City Royals in the 5th round of the regular phase of the 1982 January draft. He was then taken by the San Diego Padres in the 2nd round of the secondary phase of the 1982 June draft. He was drafted for the third and final time by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 20th round of the regular phase of the 1984 January draft. It appears he signed with the Brewers but was released before ever playing professionally in their system. He did play for the unaffiliated Idaho Falls Nuggets in 1985, hitting .239/.331/.326 with 2 home runs and 25 RBI in 66 games.

He later became a scout for the Minnesota Twins, Los Angeles Dodgers and Kansas City Royals, signing, among others Aaron Brooks, Christian Colón, Travis Denker, Greg Miller and Chuck Tiffany.

He was head coach at Orange Coast College in 1990.
