Biographical Information[edit]

Scott Doffek peaked at AA as a player then became a college coach.

Doffek was All-State in high school. [1] He batted .539 as a junior college sophomore to lead the NJCAA. [2] He was undrafted out of college and was signed by the Los Angeles Dodgers. He hit .281/.353/.326 for the GCL Dodgers, backing up Eric Young Sr. at 2B. In 1990, he produced at a .257/.305/.391 clip for the Yakima Bears, fielding .927 at 2B. He tied for 3rd in the Northwest League with 4 triples, behind Darius Gash and Phil Hiatt.

In 1991, he hit .261/.301/.377 for the Vero Beach Dodgers, backing up Matt Howard at 2B and Steve O'Donnell at 3B. He put up a .288/.306/.380 line for the '92 San Antonio Missions, playing the outfield as well as 2B and 3B. In 1993, he hit .259/.284/.341 in 26 games for San Antonio. Overall, he had batted .269/.309/.370 in 303 pro games, with 99 runs and 114 RBI. He had fielded .932 in 120 games at second, .885 in 52 at 3B and .978 in 39 in the outfield and had presumably pinch-hit or played DH often. He was a replacement player for the Pittsburgh Pirates during the 1995 strike, hired when he showed up to fix the team's copier. [3]

From 1995-2006, he was hitting coach for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He became head coach in 2007 and won 25 games, a school record for a first-year coach. In 2009, he won Horizon League Coach of the Year. With 335 wins entering 2019, he trailed only Jerry Augustine on the school leaderboard. [4] Doffek retired after the 2023 season. In 17 seasons as head coach, the school won 438 games.
