Biographical Information

A classic, AAAA player, Phil Hiatt was considered the heir apparent to Kevin Seitzer for the Kansas City Royals when he was recalled in 1993. Hiatt hit only .218 in 81 games for Kansas City and was sent back to the minor leagues.

Hiatt had other cups of coffee in the majors in 1995, 1996, and 2001 with the Royals, Detroit Tigers, and Los Angeles Dodgers but he never played more than 52 games in the majors during any of those seasons.

Hiatt did stick in AAA ball, where he played for 13 seasons. He was a AAA slugger, in 1996, he hit 42 home runs for Toledo. In 2001, he hit two for the Dodgers and 44 homers in Las Vegas, one of the highest totals of the 1990s.

In a career that ended during Spring Training 2005 with the Washington Nationals, in all, Hiatt played for 13 clubs over 15 seasons (1991-2004). His career minor league totals show a .272 career batting average with 1480 hits, 317 home runs, and 986 RBI.
