Biographical Information[edit]

Scott Cone has pitched in the Australian Baseball League, as has his brother Ben Cone.

Scott was 3-1 with a 2.95 ERA for West Texas A&M in 2013, fanning 23 in 21 1/3 IP. He had a 8-2, 4.20 record in 2014. He tied for third in the Lone Star Conference in wins and was third with 72 strikeouts. Joining the Canberra Cavalry for the 2015-2016 ABL, he was 3-2 with a 4.60 ERA. He was then picked for the New Zealand national team for the 2017 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers, as was his brother Ben. He wound up leading the team in innings pitched and strikeouts. He started the opener against South Africa and went 2 2/3 innings with only one hit (to Jonathan Phillips) though he walked two. He left with Jonathan Phillips on base again (this time due to an error) but brother Ben relieved and let the inherited runner score, charging Scott with the loss. His other appearance also came against South Africa, replacing Blair Johnstone in the 4th with a 5-0 deficit. He allowed one hit again in 2 2/3 innings and again walked two; this time, he fanned four. He pitched two scoreless innings but allowed a hit to Gift Ngoepe with two outs in the 6th and walked Anthony Phillips. Jimmy Boyce relieved and let both inherited runners score.
